emmy award tv comedy drama 2008 best of the best

Emmy organizers for the first time ever on Thursday unveiled a list of the top 10 comedies and 10 dramas competing to be nominated for U.S. television’s highest honors, which are presented in September.

Traditionally, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences does not reveal its short list of the 20 shows under consideration for best drama and best comedy series nominations, which this year will be announced on July 17.

The list of 10 drama finalists includes one previous Emmy winner for best drama series, ABC’s castaway thriller “Lost,” and three other past nominees — ABC’s courtroom saga “Boston Legal” and two medical shows, the Fox hit “House” and ABC favorite “Grey’s Anatomy.”

The critically acclaimed but low-rated NBC series “Friday Night Lights” also made the cut, as did the serial killer drama “Dexter,” which appeared on both CBS and the cable network Showtime.

Rounding out the roster of drama finalists were four more cable shows — AMC’s new period piece “Mad Men,” the FX legal drama “Damages,” Showtime’s historical romp “The Tudors” and the final season of HBO’s “The Wire.”

The top 10 comedies feature six programs from the broadcast networks lead by Emmy winners for the last two year, “30 Rock” and “The Office,” both on NBC, as well as CBS’s bawdy sitcom “Two and a Half Men,” Fox’s animated series “Family Guy” and ABC newcomer “Pushing Daisies.”

HBO dominated the four cable TV comedies on the short list with veteran programs “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “Entourage,” as well as recent arrival “Flight of the Conchords.” They are joined by Showtime’s “Weeds,” about a pot-dealing mom.

The top 10 short lists were determined by votes from the entire television academy, and now go to “blue ribbon” panels of academy members who will judge the contenders. Results from the academy voting and the panel voting are then averaged to determine the five nominees for each category.

The 60th Primetime Emmy Awards will take place September 21, and will also include awards for TV actors, actresses, mini-series, made-for-TV movies and a host of other honors.

Flavor of Love Reunion Show

After choosing Thing 2 over Black in the season (and series) finale of Flavor of Love, Flavor Flav gives his take on the show, while the rest of the contestants give an update on their lives since their elimination.

Of course, a Flavor of Love reunion special won’t be the same without the drama, catfights and other unexpected twists that will give the girls the shock of their lives and give fans at home an entertaining (or dreadful) one hour viewing experience.

In a preview of the reunion special, there appears to be a few major twists in store for everyone, including some cursing and girls showing their private parts to the audience.  The most anticipated moment ensues when Flavor Flav asks someone to marry him, though it’s not clear if it is Thing 2 or someone else.

According to MediaTakeOut.com, Thing 2 will be announcing that she’s not interested in being with Flavor Flav anymore, which certainly contradicts her recent VH1 interview where she seemed optimistic about her relationship with the rapper.  At any rate, she reveals that she’s got a new man in her life right now and that they are engaged.  Who is Thing 2’s mystery man?  It has been reported that he is a 45-year-old man with a bunch of children and that he had already appeared on the show playing the “Exes game.”

As expected, Flavor Flav takes the rejection in stride.  Eventually, he brings out his baby mother and proposes to her on camera.  While this is what Media Take Out is reporting, other speculations have surged that Flavor Flav will be ultimately proposing to Black.

Bret Michaels Rock Of Love 2: Bye Bye Megan

megan rock of love 2 episode bret michaels trash tv reality tv

Every week Poison frontman Bret Michaels searches for a worthy life partner on Rock of Love 2, while Rock Daily searches for ways to reference “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” in our Rock Reality Show Recaps. Here’s our take on episode nine:

Sixty Minutes of Rockin’ Reality in One Sentence: Bret Michaels brings in the girls’ ex-boyfriends (and, for Ambre, her dorkish best friend), and while he unsuccessfully pumps them for information at a cigar bar, season one’s Heather is back at the house getting the ladies so wasted they all either puke, cry or take their clothes off.

Did Every Rose Have Its Thorn?: It did not. But Bret discovered the thorny side of all his hopefuls — Destiney is a groupie; Megan has already been on a reality show (Beauty and the Geek), Jessica can’t hold her alcohol; Ambre’s abs are scary; Daisy still lives with her ex-boyfriend, the lead singer of something goth and eyeliner covered called Seraphim Shock.

The Most Ridiculous Part: Daisy enters a sobbing fit so severe we thought her lips might melt off when she admits to Heather that she still shares a one-bedroom with her former boyfriend, Charles. Heather finally escapes by saying, “I’ve gotta pee, and I’ve gotta talk to the rest of the girls.” Meanwhile Bret is playing arcade games at Dave & Busters (which “rocks!”).

The Rockin’ Finish: Heather reminds us what this show has been missing all season — drunk reality-show antics. We love you, Heather! Fortunately, she’ll be back next week when Bret moves the girls to Vegas for one last hurrah — everyone but Megan, that is. Michaels sends her home for seeming disingenuous, and she awkwardly stands there looking distraught until he escorts her out.

Moment of Truth

moment of truth star busted for lies staged for rateings ratings fox trash white trash trash tv television

February 29, 2008 — The “other man” who helped destroy a marriage on national TV - getting his ex to admit to 8 million viewers that she’d rather be married to him than her hubby - is “sick” over his role in the scandal and says he made a mistake appearing on the show.

“I really just want all of this to be over,” Frank Nardi Jr. wrote in an e-mail to The Post yesterday about his stomach-churning appearance on the lie-detector reality show “Moment of Truth” Monday.

The fledgling New York actor, who goes by the online nickname “Nardiballs,” also wrote on his MySpace.com page yesterday: “This whole experience was a mistake . . . I haven’t been this sick ever in my life.

“It wasn’t my intention to go out and ruin a marriage.”

But that’s what happened when Nardi, 25, turned up as a surprise guest on the controversial Fox show where his one-time gal pal, Lauren Cleri, 26, made viewers squirm after admitting she’d cheated on her husband.

She then dropped a stunner, confessing she wishes she’d married Nardi instead of her hubby of two years, NYPD rookie cop Frank Cleri, 24.

“I thought it was gonna be fun when the producers from the show invited me out to LA,” Nardi wrote on his blog.

“Quite the contrary . . . It was supposed to be a surprise, a good surprise, but unfortunately it backfired right in my face.”

“As we all know the show was nuts,” added Nardi, who has been labeled on several TV message boards as a homewrecker.

I’m sorry I ever did it.”

Before his small-screen debut, Nardi - who has appeared in the Philadelphia production of the off-Broadway hit “Tony & Tina’s Wedding” and attends acting classes at Manhattan’s William Esper Studio - touted his prime-time appearance to his online friends, and urged them to watch the show.

Lauren Cleri, a New York salon worker and aspiring actress, and Nardi were classmates at New Jersey’s Pennsauken HS, where he was president of the drama club.

They dated before she wed Cleri in 2006.

As the cameras rolled and a visibly shaken Frank Cleri cringed, Nardi boldly asked Lauren: “Do you believe I am the man you should be married to?”

She answered “yes” - and racked up $100,000 when the lie-detector results said she was telling the truth, but wound up with nothing when the machine rejected her answer that she was a good person.
