Hotheaded model Naomi Campbell allegedly went nuclear on her driver today in New York City and beat the mess out of him while he was behind the wheel … law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

Sources say Naomi’s driver called 911 at around 3 PM ET, claiming the model was assaulting him from the backseat as they were driving through Manhattan.


We’re told Naomi took off after the guy made the call — and he was later treated at the police station for bumps, bruises and neck pain.

Our sources say cops haven’t reached Naomi yet about the alleged incident … but we’re told her assistant may be down at the precinct right now.

UPDATE: Naomi’s rep tells TMZ, “There shouldn’t be a rush to judgment. Naomi will co-operate voluntarily, and there is more to the story than meets the eye.”

Supermodel Naomi Campbell has been checked into a Sao Paulo hospital Monday night where she was treated by one of Brazil’s top specialists in infectious diseases.

Details are scarce, but according to a publicist for the 37-year-old British star, Campbell underwent surgery to have a small cyst removed.

“Naomi Campbell was admitted to hospital … to have a small cyst removed,” her publicist, Jeff Raymond, said in a statement. “Following the successful procedure, she is now resting and is looking forward to getting back to work. She would like to thank the doctors who have kindly looked after her.”

Campbell, who is a frequent South America visitor, was admitted to the Sirio Libanes Hospital and reportedly flew all the way from London for the four-hour surgery. According to the surgeon who operated on her, gynecologist Jose Aristodemo Pinotti, Campbell’s laparoscopic surgery was successful and she is recovering well.

“I’m not authorized to reveal what Naomi had, nor the gravity of the condition, but I can say I operated on her yesterday and that she is completely cured,” Pinotti told Brazilian news agency Estado.

“It was an emergency operation, but everything went well. There were no incidents or any problems that worried me during the operation,” he added.

She is currently under the close supervision of Pinotti and David Uip, a specialist in infectious diseases.

“The patient and her advisers have determined that the hospital’s medical staff will not issue any formal or informal information on her medical condition,” the hospital wrote in a statement to Associated Press.

The model was in the northeastern city of Salvador earlier this month where she celebrated Carnival. She recently made headlines for interviewing Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez for the February issue of British GQ magazine.

“I found him to be fearless, but not threatening or unreasonable,” she wrote. “I hope Venezuela’s relations with America will improve in the immediate future.”
