Bryan Adams has no idea how his friendship with Amy Winehouse became public knowledge.

When he invited the troubled star to stay with him in the Caribbean during the Christmas holidays, he thought it would remain a secret trip.

Amy, 24, tried to slip away to Bryan’s Mustique home without the paparazzi on her tail - but with no luck.

‘Let me say something about this whole Amy Winehouse scenario,’ says Bryan, 48. ‘I don’t even know, truthfully, how anybody knows I know her – other than the fact that I photographed her for charity.’

Bryan thinks the media shouldn’t intrude into Amy’s personal life.

‘It’s her business,’ he tells Seven magazine. ‘You know what I mean? I just thought it would be nice for someone to come and spend time… But I don’t want to focus on that.’

But his motives for taking on the recovering pop wreck weren’t entirely altruistic – he wanted someone to look after him in later life.

The Leatherheads star joked to UK Marie Claire magazine: “I did try to adopt Britney Spears – you know, somebody with some cash to take care of me in my old age. She wasn’t having it.”

George also hinted that he may finally be willing to give up his bachelordom for new girlfriend Sarah Larson.

He confessed he now thinks about marriage “every other day”, and that, “[marriage] is something that’s a sort of endgame for people.”

Back in February, Sarah became the first Clooney-squeeze to join the actor on the red carpet, when he escorted the former waitress to the Oscars.

Yesterday, we reported that Britney’s father and guardian, Jamie Spears, wants her to continue working in TV to keep her pants-hating ass out of trouble.
This followed a successful stint on How I Met Your Mother and a comment from 30 Rock star Tina Fey that she’d welcome Britney on that series.
Well, it turns out the President of PETA - yes, the ca-razzzy animal rights peeps - was so impressed with Britney’s role as a receptionist on How I Met Your Mother that she wants her to be a PETA receptionist for just one hour.
The group wrote an open letter to Britney Spears, stating:
“We have criticized you in the past for contributing to the dog overpopulation crisis and wearing real fur, but perhaps now that your own crisis has abated, a new day calls for a new relationship, a new outlook, and a new understanding.”
The always-entertaining group says it will donate $1,000 to a children’s charity of her choice should Britney Spears take them up on their offer.
Hopefully this is just a ploy by PETA to abduct and free Britney’s poor Yorkshire terrier, London. Poor son of a bitch looks pretty desperate these days.

So it’s a wonder that the two leaders in their respective fields have taken this long to embark on the collaborative “Heart of the City” tour that brought them to the Wachovia Center on Sunday for a seamless two and a half hour show packed with hits from both sides of the hip-hop soul coin.

Mariah Carey has said she doesn’t “have birthdays” and claimed that she still feels like a 12-year-old.

The singer insisted that she has the innocence of a young child, revealing that she has anniversaries rather than birthday celebrations.

She told Parade: “I’m eternally 12. And that 12-year-old inside me is an eternal optimist.

“I know what it feels like not to have fame or money, and I do still feel like that same person in many ways.

“Honestly, I don’t even have birthdays. I call them ‘anniversaries’. It really is about being as young as you feel.”

Carey added: “I will still always choose a day at Disney World over a night in Las Vegas, because that’s who I am.”
