Review in a Hurry: A sarcastic, iconoclastic, English celebrity news muckraker (Simon Pegg) gets a job at a prestigious New York fashion magazine and is stunned to discover that being a mouthy jerk doesn’t quite cut it with U.S. celebrity publicists. Because this is a movie, he also manages to catch the eyes of both Kirsten Dunst and Megan Fox.
The Bigger Picture: Loosely based on the real-life experiences of British journalist Toby Young and his clumsy attempt to fit in on staff at Vanity Fair, Robert B. Weide’s film changes the protagonist’s first name to Sidney, with Jeff Bridges as Graydon Carter stand-in Clayton Harding, an eccentric boss not unlike a less homicidal version of his Iron Man villain (Irony Man, perhaps?). When Young’s satirical U.K. paper is on the verge of utter collapse, Harding calls him out of the blue to offer him a job, despite or possibly because of the fact that the paper had recently made Harding a target of its barbs.
Determined both to live the high life and shake up the status quo, Young proceeds to abuse the privileges of the job and speak truth to power as he sees it in an industry where phony flattery is the essential coin of the realm. By the time he eventually learns how to play the game, of course, it turns out that success isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. So nice of big Hollywood stars to lecture the rest of us on how awful it is to have a huge paycheck and sex with models.
Still, despite the contrived story arc, it’s undeniably fun to watch someone onscreen endlessly get away with irritating the bosses in ways most of us only wish we could. And while the story may not entirely resemble the real Toby Young’s actual experiences, the oft-overrated Pegg is actually a perfect choice to portray him in all his sarcastic yet sensitive, um, glory. Oh yeah…Fox wears a wet see-through dress at one point, which should guarantee several ticket sales all by itself.
The 180—a Second Opinion: Readers should bear in mind that entertainment journalists, film reviewers included, rarely see movies made about our profession, and there’s a good chance we may appreciate the inside references more than the general public will.

Tropic Thunder uses spoof trailers to great effect in its opening sequences, to introduce the film’s actor characters. Now it looks like How To Lose Friends and Alienate People is trying to pull off the same thing.
In it How to Lose Friends, Transformers babe Megan Fox plays a character named Sophie Maes. It seems Sophie is an actor, and she’s starring in a movie about the sexed up sex life of Mother Teresa. Yes I said Mother Teresa. Her nun movie has a full on fake official site and a trailer to go with it. Those of you harboring a secret nun fetish won’t want to miss this. The rest of you… well let’s just say How To Lose Friends and Alienate People isn’t nearly as good at fake trailers as Tropic Thunder. Give me the secret love affair between two priests starring Tobey Maguire and Robert Downey Jr. over the passionate love life of Mother Teresa starring Megan Fox any day.

Transformers director Michael Bay has told Fox to add 10 pounds to her frame before she starts shooting the sequel later this summer.
Fox, who topped Fhm’s annual poll of beauties, recently slimmed down for her role in the upcoming film Jennifer’s Body.
The 22-year-old star told Fox News, “I’d lost a lot of weight and I got really scrawny, but I was told I had to put on a size for Transformers because Michael doesn’t like skinny girls“.
And it looks as though she’s taking the advice very seriously: “I eat red velvet cake before I go to bed every night. If you eat meals later, you’ll put on weight faster, so I had dinner at 10pm”.
And as for the movie, which Shia LeBeouf and Megan will star in again, Fox adds “There are no big love scenes. At this point Shi and I have been dating for two years so we’re at the bickering stage, like an old married couple.”

Megan Fox certainly comes across as a completely free-spirited actress, but it turns out that the 22-year-old screen siren had a problem with making love to an abundance of men and women in her latest flick, “Jennifer’s Body.”
“I have a few love scenes. I eat and seduce everyone — boys and girls. There’s a lot of kissing and craziness. It was awkward, it’s always awkward and it’s never fun,” Fox recently told Pop Tarts.
“Johnny Simmons and I got really close and became really good friends, so it was hard not to just laugh hysterically and endlessly,” Fox said. “So I’m kissing him and he’s like my brother — it was really awful. He got spit in my mouth and it was gross.”
Fox has been dubbed the next Angelina Jolie, given her foxy little bod, black hair and big lips — but just don’t call her beautiful and sexy.
“I’m not comfortable with it at all. It annoys me,” Megan responded when we asked about being named this year’s hottest by FHM magazine. She said that she’s just a big comic book nerd who couldn’t really give a s—t about what Hollywood thinks.
“I don’t leave my home ever. If it do, it’s to go to KFC, so I’m not involved in Hollywood at all. I don’t ever read anything about myself — people that I know that have Google alerts on themselves are all crazy,” she said. “My mom tells me a nice thing once in a while, but she weeds out all the negatives to spare me. But I don’t care.”
Well, she does leave her abode to go to a few places other than the chicken joint — like the mall in the Valley. Fox and boyfriend, Brian Austin Green, were spotted out and about together on Saturday, spending more time in a public lip-lock than they did purchasing products.
And for the record, we tried to get some more inside scoops regarding the second “Transformers,” which just started filming last month, but Megan was mum.
“They’ll kill me if I say anything,” Fox said. “I’ll get fired and they’ll replace me with Eva Longoria.”
