Britney Still Separated from Sons

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008 - 1 Comment »

Pop singer Britney Spears did not regain permission to visit sons Sean Preston and Jayden James during a closed-door court hearing on Tuesday, after lawyers for both sides reportedly could not agree on the terms.

Britney Spears, who once started out as a Mouseketeer in the Disney Channel series The New Mickey Mouse Club, as a pre-teen, is now a Grammy winning multi-platinum singer who’s fallen, hopefully just temporarily, down a bizarre rabbit’s hole.

The 26-year-old mother of two divorced backup dancer Kevin Federline in July 2007, after a 3-year marriage, with the couple sharing legal and physical custody of sons Sean Preston, 2 and Jayden James, 1.

Britney went through a well-publicized chaotic whirlwind of strange behavior afterwards and ultimately lost primary custody of the boys in October. After the Jan. 3 standoff with police, when she refused to hand over the children to Federline at the scheduled time, Britney lost visitation rights as well.

Britney has not seen her sons since then. At the time, she was hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for two days. Later that month, she was placed on a 5150 Involuntary psychiatric hold for a second time, and admitted at the UCLA Medical Center’s psychiatric ward. She left after six days.

Tuesday’s court hearing was a lengthy one according to reports, yet no consensus was reached between lawyers for the two sides.

Los Angeles Superior Court spokesman Alan Parachini told reporters that no change had been ordered by the family judge regarding Britney’s interdiction to see the boys. A request for a gag order from Britney’s lawyer was denied by the court, thus allowing attorneys to talk to the media.

Another request was granted though; Britney can change her lawyer, Anne Kiley of Los Angeles-based firm Trope & Trope, with new attorney Stacy Phillips.

Jamie Spears, the singer’s father, was named temporary co-conservator of her estate, along with attorney Andrew Wallet, on Jan. 31, by Superior Court Commissioner Reva Goetz. The conservatorship was to be discussed once more on Feb. 14; because a medical evaluation of Britney was delayed, her father’s co-conservator status was extended further.

Mark Vincent Kaplan, Kevin Federline’s attorney in the custody case, who hinted last summer that the children would be “safer” with their father, told People magazine Wednesday that it is Federline’s desire for the situation to be resolved.

“We all want this as soon as possible,” Kaplan said referring to Britney regaining visitation rights once more. “That’s Kevin’s desire – to have his kids visiting their mother. That’s everyone’s goal in this case.”

Kaplan also told People magazine that Jamie Spears’ presence in his daughter’s life is very welcome and that it could even make it possible “to develop a visitation plan that enables these children to have a mother in their lives.”

Britney is reportedly receiving treatment for bipolar disorder. Her recent public appearances, shopping with her mother or having dinner with her father, have shown her more composed and healthy-looking than she has appeared in a long time.

Britney Spears’ ex-husband Kevin Federline has agreed to let the troubled pop princess see their two sons

but only if the singer’s mom, Lynne gives the go-ahead first, it has been revealed.

Britney’s mom is currently looking after Sean Preston, two, and one-year-old Jayden James, while Federline  attends New York Fashion Week with the likes of P Diddy.

A source said: “K-Fed and Lynne get on really well. He hopes Lynne can bring Britney round to see sense so that she can have some face time with her kids.

“He knows however dazed and confused Brit gets, she’ll always love those two kids with all her heart.”

Meawhile, the Toxic singer’s dad has been given the power to sack the star’s manager.

A Los Angeles court granted Jamie Spears’ request to fire Britney’s business manager Howard Grossman during a hearing on Thursday, in which he requested additional powers over his troubled daughters affairs.

Jamie Spears took control of Britney’s money and assets after his daughter was committed into a psychiatric ward at the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles last week.

Britney’s parents reportedly dislike Grossman because of his close-relationship with the star’s self-proclaimed manager Sam Lutfi, who they claim drugged their daughter.

Documents released Friday show Grossman was served with the legal documents on Thursday afternoon.

In the papers Los Angeles Superior Court commissioner Reva Goetz ordered Howard Grossman to ‘turn over all documents, records and assets relating to Britney Spears.’

The order came after Goetz held an emergency closed-door hearing brought by Jamie Spears and lawyer Andrew Wallet, who is part of Britney’s conservatorship.

Under the powers of the conservatorship order, Jamie Spears is able to restrict the visitors Britney receives and has the right to approve contracts.

Spears parents hope the measures approved by the court will allow them to calm the craziness that has surrounded the pop star.

Britney discharged herself from the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles on Wednesday February 6 after doctors ruled she did not pose a danger to herself or to others.

After leaving she was pursued by crowds of paparazzi and television helicopters on a wild chase around Los Angeles before meeting up with her British pap boyfriend Adnan Galib.

The decision by doctors to let Britney leave the mental health facility infuriated the star’s parents.

In a statement they said: “As parents of an adult child in the throws of a mental health crisis, we were extremely disappointed this morning to learn that over the recommendation of her treating psychiatrist, our daughter Britney was released from the hospital that could best care for her and keep her safe.

“We are deeply concerned about our daughter’s safety and vulnerability and we believe her life is presently at risk.”

“There are conservatorship orders in place created to protect our daughter that are being blatantly disregarded.

“We ask only that the court’s orders be enforced so that a tragedy may be averted.”

Latest Britney Hearing A ‘Small Part Of The Puzzle’

Lawyers for Britney’s father, Jamie Spears, were back in court on Thursday, along with Britney’s co-conservator, however, what exactly went on behind closed doors is unknown.

Court spokesperson Allan Parachini told reporters after the hearing that “everything about this matter is sealed.”

The one thing Parachini did reveal was a motion was filed today by Spears’ co-conservator, attorney Andrew Wallet, which went unopposed.

The nature of the motion is still unknown.

While all of the documents from Thursday’s hearing will remain sealed, court-appointed attorney Sam Ingham told reporters afterwards that what went on this afternoon was “just a small part of the puzzle.”

DOCTORS last night ruled BRITNEY SPEARS must stay in a psychiatric ward for an extra 14 DAYS.

The troubled singer was due to leave the UCLA Medical Center yesterday after a 72-hour evaluation.

But a source said staff decided she must remain.

Britney, 26, was rushed to the Los Angeles unit last week amid claims she had turned “psychotic” after three sleepless days, during which she took a cocktail of drugs.

Yesterday her parents claimed intimate photos and other items were stolen from her house after she was sent to the ward.

LYNNE and JAMIE SPEARS have called in the cops to investigate — and suspect the star’s manager Sam Lutfi of taking the personal belongings.

But Lutfi denies the theft and accused her parents of taking “everything” from Britney.

He said: “First they take her kids, then her home and money. Britney does not have anything left.”

Cops went to Britney’s Hollywood home after her parents reported a theft.

Britney Spears thrashes in hospital, lashes out at dad’s money grab

Even after she exits a Los Angelespsychiatric ward - which may not be anytime soon - Britney Spears will face serious questions about her competence handling both her money and her two small sons.

The manic ex-Mouseketeer Saturday was coming to the end of a 72-hour hospital stint arranged by her psychiatrist and loved ones, but her stay may be extended by 14 days, the celebrity Web site TMZ.comreported.

TMZ said the extension would be an internal hospital process done without a court order.

Spears’ father, Jamie, and mother, Lynne, visited her at UCLA Medical Center’s psych ward Saturday, arriving at 1 p.m. and leaving five hours later, People.com said.

On Friday, Spears’ dad went to court and gained control of her assets and access to the increasingly irrational pop princess.

The decision did not sit well with Spears, who flew into a rage after discovering her father won his fight to take control of her spiraling life, according to TMZ.

In a profane outburst, Spears promised to battle her parents in court. “Nobody’s taking my house,” she reportedly screamed. “Who is my family?”

Jamie Spears‘ triumph may only be temporary. He’s due in court Monday with lawyer Andrew Wallete for another hearing on whether they should continue as conservators for his troubled daughter.

Under the court decision, he was permitted to hire round-the-clock security for his daughter and bar people from her Los Angeles mansion.

Show biz manager Osama Lutfi, who remains at odds with the singer’s parents, was also told to stay away from her.

In a separate hearing tomorrow, Britney Spears’ lawyers in her custody battle with her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, are due back in court. The lawyers have asked to be taken off the case after Spears twice refused to appear in court.

It was unclear if her second hospitalization in a month would change their plans. Lawyer Anne Kiley didn’t return a phone call yesterday.

Spears’ bizarre antics led a judge to bar her from visiting sons Sean Preston, 2, andJayden James, 1, who are in Federline’s custody.

Spears arrived at the neuro-psychiatric unit Thursday with a police escort that cost taxpayers a reported $25,000.
