Magician Penn Jillette and tennis champ Monica Seles were the first stars eliminated from the sixth season of ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars.” Each came into Tuesday’s results show in last place.

Jillette, 53, added a dash of magic to his quickstep, but his footwork failed to impress the judges. Despite his dismissal, the magician insisted that he and his professional partner would continue to rehearse daily and planned to perform in the parking lot.

“There’s no way my dance career ends now,” he said.

Before her name was announced, Seles said being the first woman to leave the show “would be really hard.”

“I’m not used to losing,” said the nine-time Grand Slam champ.

Judge Bruno Tonioli acknowledged that her tennis prowess didn’t translate to the dance floor: “You’re not a performer, and it’s hard for you.”

Still, he called the 34-year-old athlete “a legend.”

“Somebody of your stature being here with us really is a privilege, and you threw yourself (in) at the deep end,” he said.

The show’s first double-elimination round also featured a Cirque du Soleil-style acrobatic dance performance and two live songs by tween fave the Jonas Brothers. The pop-rock group played a cover of a-ha’s 1985 hit “Take On Me,” which was released before the trio of brothers was born, and the new song “When You Look Me in the Eyes.”

The remaining competitors include radio host Adam Carolla, pro football player Jason Taylor, Olympic skater Kristi Yamaguchi, R&B singer Mario, and actors Steve Guttenberg, Shannon Elizabeth, Christian de la Fuente, Marlee Matlin, Priscilla Presley and Marissa Jaret Winokur.

Each will perform the tango or jive on next week’s show.

Dancing With The Stars New Celebrity Cast

Priscilla Presley - Presley studied ballet when she was younger which should give her an edge. And maybe she learned a few hip-swiveling moves from her famous ex-husband. She could get the nostalgia vote if Elvis fans are watching.

Kristi Yamaguchi - Ice skating requires grace and fancy footwork, so Olympic medalist Yamaguchi will nail lyrical dances like the waltz as well as the intricate moves of the jive and the quickstep. Skating fans are likely to enjoy “Dancing With The Stars” - and assure Yamaguchi some votes - so she should end up one of the favorites. Several betting sites have already pegged her as the winner (see more odds below.)

Adam Carolla - As a former Golden Gloves boxer and high school football player, Carolla has athletic experience. He just doesn’t look like the kind of guy who would be light on his feet, and on the surface he appears too goofy to take the competition seriously. But, he’s paired with two-time winner Julianne Hough, and might be able to rally his radio listeners.

Marlee Matlin - Matlin says her hearing impairment will help her focus on the dancing, and keep her from becoming distracted by everything going on around her during the competition. In ballroom dancing, the woman must follow the man’s moves, so as long as she follows her partner, she could do well. She is a respected actress, but may not be popular enough to have a built-in fan base.

Shannon Elizabeth - Elizabeth studied dance when she was a girl, and was an athlete in high school. She also studies Krav Maga, the martial art developed by the Israeli Defense Forces. She’s got discipline and her sex appeal puts her at an advantage with fan votes.

Steve Guttenberg - He starred in the notably awful “Don’t Stop The Music,” about disco icons The Village People, so there’s a chance he can at least do the hustle. Other than that, he doesn’t have much going for him.

Monica Seles - Speed and discipline she’s got, but she doesn’t appear particularly graceful. She’s also 5′10″, which doesn’t help, but at least her professional partner is Jonathan Roberts who is around 6′0″. If tennis fans tune in, she’ll have more of a chance.

Penn Jillette - The hulking illusionist/comedian might turn out to be a dark horse. He’s an accomplished juggler and there’s certainly grace to that skill. Many big fellas are known to be much lighter on their feet than expected, so don’t rule him out yet.

Mario - The 21-year-old R&B/pop singer shows off some smooth moves in the music video for his mega-hit “Let Me Love You,” which spent nine weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 chart a couple of years ago. That, along with the fact that he’s paired with the sizzling Karina Smirnoff, should give him a nice advantage. He’s definitely one to watch this season.

Jason Taylor - Emmitt Smith won season 3 and fellow NFL legend Jerry Rice was the runner-up in Season two. Will 6′6,” 255-pound defensive end Taylor be able to have the same success? He towers over his 5′6″ partner, Edyta Sliwinska, which doesn’t help, but he does have his own set of fans and the edge of being a disciplined (and handsome) athlete. The sexy Silwinska ain’t chopped liver either.

Cristian De La Fuente - Cristian says on his MySpace page that he’s “always wanted to learn how to dance,” so it doesn’t seem like he’s had past experience (although he was involved in athletics at school). He’s lucky to be paired with Cheryl Burke, the professional partner who won with Emmitt Smith and Drew Lachey. He’ll earn fan votes for being a hottie - especially if he has an opportunity to take his shirt off.

Marissa Jaret Winokur - She won a Tony award for playing the starring role of Tracy Turnblad in the Broadway production of “Hairspray” and before that she was Jan in the touring company of “Grease.” So she has dance training and - based on the choreography of those two musicals - she’ll probably do really well with the high-energy jive and swing. But, in a competition where fan loyalty can easily trump the judges’ approval rating, Winokur could be at a disadvantage.

D-Day Looms for McCartney, Mills

The long and winding divorce of Paul McCartney and Heather Mills McCartney may finally be coming to an end.

The high-profile duo began the first day of what’s expected to be a weeklong proceeding to hash out terms for their long-pending divorce settlement, a payout from McCartney to Mills McCartney that could be the largest in U.K. legal history.

The 40-year-old antimine campaigner was the first to arrive to the hearing Monday at the Family Division of London’s High Court. She wore a gray and black pinstripe skirt suit and a pink blouse, and refused to speak to reporters on her way in. The court warded off the more brazen members of the press corps with a sign warning “No Admittance—Strictly Private.” The windows of the courthouse were also blacked out.

The 65-year-old former Beatle arrived shortly after his soon-to-be ex-wife, also donning a gray pinstripe suit, bidding a quick “good morning” to the news media, though refusing to comment on the proceedings.

McCartney was accompanied by his attorney Fiona Shackleton, who famously represented Prince Charles in his divorce from Princess Diana; Mills McCartney was solo.

The onetime model announced she would be representing herself in the case after firing her legal team (who, coincidentally, had repped Diana in her aforementioned split) last November. The termination came after several PR-misfire interviews on both British and U.S. television in which she railed against the alleged indifference of McCartney to her constant stream of death threats and thoughts of suicide, saying he failed both her and their daughter.

During this week’s face-off, Mills McCartney would be able to cross-examine her ex in front of the court, should he take to the stand—just one of the perks of representing herself.

However, as the entire session is taking place in closed court, it’s unlikely exact terms of any would-be settlement will ever be made public. The only way for the payout to become public knowledge would be if either McCartney or Mills McCartney blab to the press themselves (unlikely in the advent of confidentiality clauses), or if one of them contests the judgment in a court of appeals, in which case all proceedings would be made open to the public.

Any financial settlement itself will be rendered by High Court Judge Hugh Bennett, who will likely hold off on making a final judgment Friday and instead issue his ruling in a written statement.

Both sides have kept mum on any monetary offers in the two years since they separated, save for Mills McCartney’s adamant denial of reports that she’s holding out for more money. She’s expected to rake in a minimum of $50 million in the deal—not bad for just four years of marriage. The couple shares custody of four-year-old daughter Beatrice.

More generous estimates have claimed Mills McCartney may even see a payout of upwards of $100 million.

Although payout seems like massive bank, it would barely dent McCartney’s estimated fortune of $1.6 billion.

In May 2006, the former twosome announced they were amicably ending their four-year marriage. It didn’t take long, however, before all semblance of amicability fell by the wayside, replaced by exceeding amounts of acrimony that played out in the headlines. The negative campaigning came to a head last October, when Mills McCartney revealed on Britain’s GMTV that she had received “worse press than a pedophile or a murderer” and had at one point contemplated thoughts of suicide.

Her media manager resigned in the wake of the ill-advised press tour, and Mills McCartney was forced to fire her legal team, claiming she had gone into debt and could no longer afford to shell out for the attorneys.

Since the split, neither party has formally stepped out with a new partner, though McCartney has been linked with a string of women, most recently the actress Rosanna Arquette. (Both McCartney and Arquette said they are just friends.)

Meanwhile, McCartney’s morning court date explains his absence from Sunday’s Los Angeles-held Grammy Awards. The 50th anniversary ceremony featured a major tribute to the Fab Four, courtesy of performances from Love, the Cirque de Soleil show based on the Beatles’ canon, and Across the Universe, the Julie Taymor film set to reworked Beatles tunes.

In his stead, fellow former Beatle Ringo Starr pardoned his bandmate’s absence and accepted the Grammy for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Love on behalf of McCartney, himself and the two late Beatles, George Harrison and John Lennon.
