The first day of Britney Spears’ misdemeanor driving without a license trial ended Wednesday without a single juror being seated.

Potential jurors expressed a range of opinions on Spears and the matter during initial questioning. One man labeled the idea of a trial “ridiculous,” while another potential panelist indicated he blamed the paparazzi, not Spears, for her troubles.

Only one person was dismissed from the jury pool on Wednesday. The woman indicated she had some previous contact with Spears’ business manager.

Questioning was scheduled to restart on Thursday morning, and opening statements could begin later in the day if a jury is seated.

The charge is the last remnant of a case that stemmed from an accident last August in which Spears, who did not have a valid California license, hit a parked car and left the scene. Drivers are supposed to get a California license within 10 days of establishing residency.

Spears, 26, did not appear in court on Wednesday, and may not attend the trial. Her attorney said Wednesday that no final decision on Spears’ participation in the trial had been made.

Her father, James Spears, may be called as a witness in the case, which is expected to last three days. Other potential witnesses include police officers and an online producer for gossip site X17online.com.

Pop star Britney Spears must increase her child support payments to ex-husband Kevin Federline by $5,000 a month as part of a custody settlement agreed to Friday.

Under the terms of the deal approved by Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon, Spears will pay a total of $20,000 a month to the former backup dancer.

She will also pay his $250,000 legal bill from lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan.

The custody agreement leaves her two sons — Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1 — in Federline’s custody but expands her visitation rights.

The agreement calls for Spears to have the children for a second overnight visit each week beginning in the fall.

Spears’ attorney said the performer was “at peace” with the agreement.

“She couldn’t be happier about it, actually,” said her attorney, Laura Wasser.

“She’s going to see her kids more.”

Spears has monitored visits with the toddlers three days and one night each week.

Spears, 26, lost custody of the boys last year after her behavior became erratic.

In January, after the singer was hospitalized for psychiatric problems, a court appointed her father, Jamie, conservator of her and her estate.

Kaplan did not return a call seeking comment, but he told City News Service, “It’s a great relief [for Kevin] to have this two-year ordeal behind him.”

The agreement averts a trial scheduled for August.

Wasser said negotiations concerned money and visitation rights but not Federline’s custody of the children.

“We would never have sought a modification of legal or physical custody while she’s under the conservator ship,” Wasser said.

Attorneys for Spears and her father are due in court July 31 to discuss continuing the conservator ship.

“I like Britney,” 5-year-old Elissa Bouganim, who has taken three classes with the pop star, told People magazine. “Today, first we were dancing slow, and then faster and faster … Then we did the fish-move and lots of other fun things.”

Spears, 26, has become a semi-regular instructor at the Millennium Dance Complex in the past month.

“It’s just amazing to watch Britney with the kids,” Elissa’s mother, Pam, told People. “Elissa won’t stop dancing now, that’s all she wants to do. Britney has really inspired her.”

Elissa even gave Spears a gift during Tuesday’s class.

“It was a picture of [Peter Pan’s] Tinkerbell,” she told People. “And she gave me a hug.”

Elissa also said she wants to dance with Britney “all the time.”
