Rihanna in Sydney last night following a health scare that saw her dash off the stage during a performance last week.
The beauty from Barbados showed no signs of ill health when she performed with tour mate Chris Brown at Acer Arena. But on Friday night the corset-clad star suddenly darted off the stage in the middle of the final song, clearly distressed and with one hand clutching her stomach.
Fans became frantic as Brown was forced to finish the remix of Umbrella alone.
Fiona Lakin, from tour promoter Michael Coppel Presents, said the Grammy Award-winning star was immediately treated backstage by St John Ambulance officers and a doctor.
“She was suffering from the effects of dehydration and the smoke from pyrotechnics,” Ms Lakin said. “She received medical treatment and was seen by a doctor who was on site.” Ms Lakin said the singer did not need to go to hospital.
Rihanna’s spokeswoman, Amanda Silverman, denied rumors the star fainted behind the scenes, insisting she was just hot and needed to rehydrate.
“It was very hot at the venue, so after Rihanna’s set was over she went off-stage and needed to sit down, catch her breath and have some water,” Ms Silverman said. “She is perfectly healthy.”
The 20-year-old is scheduled to perform her third Sydney concert at Acer Arena tonight.
