Proving to the world that his capabilities go beyond the boundaries of the catwalk, Tyson Beckford has just been added to a star-studded lineup of presenters for the 12th Annual Urban Wheel Awards (UWA). This much-awaited event will commence on January 15, 2008, five days after the premiere of his newest competitive reality series, Make Me A Supermodel, where he also serves as a co-host.
Set to take place at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, Michigan, the Urban Wheels Awards will honor those revolutionary automotive industry leaders who rise above the conventional and embrace diversity to generate and improve products and services that appeal to a larger customer base.
Also known as the Academy Awards of the automotive industry, it is the only assembly that recognizes the top African American, Asian and Latino executives in the automotive and ancillary industries. With a theme of “Fashion, Stars & Cars,” the UWA will include A-list entertainment, industry leaders and Hollywood celebrities presenting the UWA awards to the winners in the 12 categories.
“Since our theme this year is Fashion, Stars and Cars, Tyson Beckford epitomizes each aspect–he’s a top fashion model, a star, and hosts his own car show on TV,” UWA creator Randi Payton, CEO/Founder of On Wheels Inc., said in a statement. “We’re delighted to have him take part in this year’s event. It’s going to be a great show.”
Reportedly one of the highest-paid and richest Jamaican American male supermodels in the world, Tyson Beckford is known as the lead model for Ralph Lauren. He has graced countless billboards, numerous ads and participated in many fashion shows worldwide. In addition to his modeling endeavors, he has recently branched out his credentials as the host of a new car series called Fine Tuned on the Speed Channel. He has also been cast in a number of movies like King of the Evening and Wait. His upcoming projects next year include the film Hotel California, which he co-produced, and Bravo’s reality series Make Me A Supermodel.
“Cars have always been a passion of mine and I am honored to be asked to present at the Urban Wheel Awards. Throughout my career I have always worked to have diversity be embraced–and that’s what the UWA does,” said Beckford.
