Mike Sorrentino is the kind of guy people love — or love to hate.
He knows it. And quite frankly, he’s proud of it.
“You can hate me all you want to, but what can you possibly say to someone who looks like Rambo pretty much with his shirt off?”
That’s Mike flaunting his six-pack abs in the trailer for “Jersey Shore,” MTV’s latest “docu-soap” that follows eight Italian-American roommates during sun-drenched days and booze-fueled, sex-crazed nights on the beaches of Seaside Heights.
The 27-year-old West Brighton native is among three Staten Islanders cast in the show, which premiers tonight at 10 — and already is causing a stir with Italian-American organizations calling on MTV to pull it from the air.
Mike’s not quite sure what the fuss is all about.
Could be MTV’s promise that “there’s no spray tan too orange, no hair too spiked, no bod too tight for this crew” on a show that “exposes one of the tri-state area’s most misunderstood species, the ‘Guido.’”
“Everybody around here knows that once the summertime comes, everyone goes to the Jersey Shore,” he told the Advance during a sit-down interview this week. “It’s eight young Italian-Americans living together, working and partying the whole summer.
“A lot of stuff is going to happen. There are going to be hook-ups, fights and drama. It’s what happens when people live together. It’s human nature.
“You’re gonna see the wild side of somebody in their 20s partying, but on the opposite side, when we come back to the house and interact, you’re going to see a family. I don’t know why there is so much controversy about a show that hasn’t even come out yet.” source
